As per usual, they left a little note in my mailbox saying where my package would be redirected and waiting for me. Before I even got home, V had called them to redirect my package… a little closer. I found it so ridiculous, I had to draw a little map.

You might ask what I am complaining about, that seems pretty close. You see Laurier, the metro nearest my house. Zoom out, zoom out more, zoom out more.

You’ll see the end of the subway line, and the Purolator Default depot. Gimme a break. Thank goodness, there’s an alternate Purolator a little bit closer. WHO KNOWS why my package wasn’t sent there. Glad to have a sharp-thinking lady.

I’ll see you at Sound Control, in line to buy your own Yamaha MM6. You probably didn’t even know you needed one. Now you know. (But where the heck is Sound Control?)

This guy has definite talent, as a player and a salesman. And it’s impressive to watch him compel you to spend money. As though buying this machine will make you play as well as him. I suppose it’s no different than Hans and Franz selling ab-flex machines. The squeaky muscled man doesn’t need anything but a floor mat.

I’m sure this sells units. While I find it tacky and awful, it’s worth considering what makes a person want to put down dollars. If you can embody your target’s dreams, and then demonstrate how spending money will transfer those skills and realize the dream, bang you’ve got a sale, and another keyboard in the closet, garage, yard sale, garbage.

It’s too damn hot to be sincere.

We did a promotional spot for our Fringe show Trauma-Kit at the 13th Hour (a late-night talk show and the official after-party of the Montreal Fringe Festival).

Truth be told, we were optimistic that we would be able to attach the rope to the grid and hang her proper. We found out 15 minutes before the show started that that wouldn’t be possible - and we were the opening act. It was a tough call: fear and panic say “run away” but I’m glad we screwed up the courage to do something - even if it was a completely improvised, unrehearsed movement piece (with me in street clothes), that except for the harness, had little to do with Trauma-Kit.

Watch with a pinch of imagination. I swear it was more sensational in the flesh.

If you missed Trauma-Kit, I’ll be posting footage from the show in the weeks to come. A friend taped two performances and we’re hoping to take the best pieces and mix up something interesting.

Brandon Sanderson is a science fiction writer who is tasked to finish the final book in the Robert Jordan series “The Wheel of Time”. I have been following his blog for a while now: initially out of curiosity for the forthcoming novel, but I’ve also been enjoying reading about his process. (Less do I enjoy the partial content RSS feed he publishes. Sigh. Someday people will get it.)

Sanderson blogged his experience of rereading the series after being selected to finish Jordan’s story. Here is a summary of all of his Wheel of Time blog posts.

“A Memory of Light” is scheduled for release in the fall of 2009. And while that might seem far away, it’s probably soon enough for any dedicated fans who plan to reread the entire series in preparation. I’ll need to refresh who the heck did what the heck. I’ve always said that the only encouragement I need to chug through 9, 10 and 11 was a light at the end of the tunnel. Here it is.

I wish I could understand how it is that my body will insistently select statutory holidays to wake my body radically earlier than necessary. It’s 5am and I can’t sleep for the life of me. I figure now is as good a time as any to do a little meta-dusting at ye olde bloggue.

Today is Canada Day, which here in Montreal means Moving Day. For some reason, an overwhelming percentage of leases start and end July 1. This moving furor is augmented by the fact that the cost of rental vehicles are jacked way up, and often people moving in may overlap with people moving out.

I am very pleased to say that we are not moving this summer. Last year we did move on July 1st, and it was a dark day. There were by far not enough hands, not enough time with the truck (we paid nearly $300 for 4 hours. Ack!) And of course it started raining just as we successfully emptied the 21 ft box truck onto the side walk. Lessons for next time:

Don’t move all on one day

Don’t play the July 1st game

Find friends who won’t stand you up

Measure that biggest couch to make sure it will get through the stairwell (ours didn’t)

Don’t move all on one day

The Jazz Fest is on this week. I believe the plan is to go and check out head-liners and “youth draw” Bran Van 3000 tonight. If anyone one-hit wonder can make a come-back, there’s got to be a way I can crack this biz.
